The BottleneX Show – E3 2009 Wrap Up

Hey guys, finally got our little vidcast (video podcast) up on Youtube in which we recap our time at this years E3 convention. (E3 = Electronics Expo = “The Disneyland of video games”!) It sucks though because unless you get special permission from Youtube you can only put up 10 minute segments at a time these days. So I’m popping all 5 friggin segments on here which in total is about 40 minutes long with a little outtake at the end of the final credits. This was our first time doing this so don’t be too harsh! I was as stiff as a board and boooooring. Hopefully we’ll get a little better with time and practice. If anyone has some constructive criticism or suggestions please drop a comment. Once I’m done crying in my hands I’ll work on taking the critiques to heart. See the bottom for all the links that we brought up in the show and hopefully you’ll find something interesting in it.

E3 Day 3 Coverage

Today was the final day of E3 2009. It was fun but it went by way to fast. We did cover quite a bit today but we’ll just give you some of the highlights as we are in the process of doing an E3 wrap up video podcast which should up on the site very soon. We made it a point to see a lot of hands on demos of some of the big games for this fall and beyond. Alan Wake, God Of War 3, Uncharted 2, MAG, Mass Effect 2, and the new Wolfenstein were some of the highlights for us. All of these games look amazing. We saw a walkthrough of Alan Wake that was unbelievable. That game is really shaping up to be one of the bigger games for Microsoft. Mass Effect 2 continues after the first one and is definitely going to be a blockbuster game for Microsoft. I haven’t played the first but from other reviews and what i’ve heard, it sounds like it was a great game. Some other things we saw today was Army of Two, Battlefield 3, DJ Hero, and Battlefield Bad Company 2. All in all it was a great show and I’m glad to see it was just about back to it’s original form. Sony PSP Go [Hands On]

Well hello there. As you may or may not know Sony is finally releasing a follow up to it’s underwhelming handheld gaming device, the PSP. Now I must tell you I never owned a PSP due to the fact that I just never got into it. I only got even semi interested in one when Daxter (still the best game on the platform followed closely by God of War) was released. Still, I just couldn’t shell out the dough for it when the Nintendo’s DS Lite is the be all-end all of handhelds. It’s like choosing between flying in the space shuttle or riding a pogo stick naked. Just no choice. Well, for the sane anyway.

So now Sony has finally bit the bullet and is releasing the new PSP Go. It’s smaller, faster, and way more competition for the DS Lite. Can it catch up and maybe over take the crown from Nintendo?? No. Not gonna happen. Cause it’s still all about the games. Will I be more impulsed to buy a PSP Go than I was the PSP? For sure. Some reasons for this are the new digital distribution as they’ve done away with the UMD discs….finally. All games and movies will now be downloaded via wifi from the PSN (Playstaion) Store. Not sure of the game prices at this time. Price for the PSP Go will be $249 and will be released on October 1st of this year.

E3 Day 2 Coverage

Hey guys, today was another fun day. We started out in West Hall to get the scoop on the latest from Sony and Nintendo. At Sony, we saw MAG which is an online first person shooter that supports over 200 players. Looks like a fun game which was playable. Right next to it was the multiplayer part of Uncharted 2. It looked fun. Seemed like a normal third person shooter. We didn’t get to many details on the game as it was setup for a bunch of players to jump in. Probably the biggest thing we saw there was the new PSP Go. It’s a new version of the PSP. We’ll have an Hands on with Video and Pics. Stopped by Nintendo. Watched the new Wii Sports Resort. This is the follow up to the original that was bundled in with Wii consoles. Looked good and it was using the Wii Motion Plus. This allows the control to be more precise. The other big game we saw was the New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Pretty cool, looked like the old versions with nice graphics. One cool thing though is you can play with up to 4 people CO-OP. Nintendo was really about games this year and they have a lot of titles to show it.

South Hall was up next and we didn’t see to much today as we plan to spend the entire day tomorrow here. We spent much of our time at the Microsoft Main Stage Theater checking out Halo 3: ODST. This game looked nice. Definitely Halo. This is supposed to be set before Master Chief so you play as a rookie. It has 4 player Co-Op for both the campaign and Firefight. We should have a more in depth preview of this coming shortly. We did catch a little of the Live Entertainment. We actually caught this on Tuesday off to the side where they had it setup. They showed the new instant streaming from the new Zune HD store. It allows you to rent a movie and either stream or download up to 1080p. They also showed how you can browse and add to your instant Netflix queue without the need for a computer. You can browse through everything as if it was on a computer.

The day was a little short so we plan to make up for it tomorrow with some more in depth previews, interviews, and hopefully a podcast. Stay tuned folks!

E3 Day 1 Coverage

Ok folks we made it to E3 2009 – Day 1!

The first and most obvious thing that we noticed…..was only HALF the crowd as previous E3 conventions. The con has been downsized to just the two main, South & West, halls and even given that I could still raise my elbows up just about anywhere in the con. I have to say…..loved it! We even found a table to eat our lovely…..uhh lovely cafeteria food at.

We did a quick audio podcast to wrap the day up….but due to technical difficulty it won’t play directly from this site. Sorry, we’re still pretty new to this. *blush*

Today was a short day that we used to just get our feet wet. Check back tomorrow night for more in depth reviews of the games we tested and another wrap up podcast! Thank you guys so much for any interest……next year we’re all going together!

What’s up everybody, just wanted to let you know that we are getting ready for E3 which starts tomorrow with Microsoft’s keynote. We’ll try to post what we hear from it. Things really kick off for us on Tuesday when it all the real fun starts. We’ll be there getting the news on the latest on the show floor & some exclusive behind the scenes intel from some big name players.
